Hello! I am looking for some help, a friend of mine inherited some tools from a family member. When he was cleaning up the wood plane, he took it apart and now can't remember which way the blade goes! Any help would be appreciated!

It depends on the type of handplane, and the angle of the blade. Some planes are low angle planes and some are standard (steeper) angled planes. Also, need to know if it is a block plane, or Bailey/Stanley Nos 02 through 08. If ya can furnish that info I can provide it to you. But as one post suggests, try it one way or the other if ya don't want to know the details.

What is the approximate worth of a Bailey # 5 14 " Patent -D Mar-25-02, August-19-02 smooth plane in good condition? We would appreciate your advice.
Also have #3 Stanley Bailey plane 9 1/4 " long by 2" 3/32 wide . Blue paint and wood handle in good condition. Bailey- Stanley #7 smooth plane, 22 " long and 3" wide wood plane , good shape. We are in Stanley territory and Lin worked for Stanley for many years . Our son is working at Stanley now. We know we could ask someone in the "know" at Stanley but we would like an expert out side opinion. Thank you.

Put it back together and try it! If it don't work, reverse the blade. L8R----Fred

With most hand planes the bevel usually goes down (to the rear), unless it's set at a very low angle in the body.
