Hello, I am looking at an old sears air compressor. 4hp and 2 cycle compressor. But it only has a 20 gallon tank. Could I buy it and put it on a bigger tank? Or would the 20 gallon tank be big enough to be able to paint a car or tractor with, and use air tools? Thanks,
Barnz

That Sears air compressor is going to be too small to use for much more than airing up tires, blowing dust off yer tractor or other light duty stuff, even if you put it on a bigger tank! Those little 2cylinder compressors don't put out much cubic feet per minute, (CFM) which you'll need much more of, if you want to use it for painting, etc.! Go to the Automotive paint or welding supply store, ask them about a good size compressor to buy, then tell them you want to paint with it, and use air impact wrenches, and go by their advice. Installing a low CFM pump on a bigger tank won't let the comp. keep up, it'll just run out of air sooner. It will not run an impact wrench! And, you'll have to stop and wait for it to catch up when spray painting! And, 2 tanks defeat the purpose! Need any more info-write me! Rusty Jones

Should work fine. If you need mor air capacity just find an old air tank and hook them together.

This sounds like the commpressor I had, (about 85 model). I painted with it a couple of times, just couldn't rush things. You should only be using about 35 PSI. Depending on the condition it should work fine.
