OT (sorta) Sealer for a deck built out of CCA lum

I hope this is not too far off-topic. But I am looking for good advice and usually you guys (and ladies) have been there and done that. I have just built a house and am looking for something to seal the deck. It is built out of CCA lumber. Does anybody out there know the do's and do not's on types of sealer and anything else I need to know before I screw this up too bad. I intend to use the scaps for a floor in my head chute so this is kinda ag related. Hope you folks don't mind me asking this here.

Flood makes a product called Seasonite that's intended specifically for new treated lumber. It stabilizes the wood so it doesn't dry out too fast. It's a good idea to seal the end grain of the boards, if you can get to them; that will reduce splitting.

Once the deck is a year old, you can put a stain or sealer on it. The only finish I recommend is Penofin.

Actually, there's no real reason to put a stain or sealer on treated wood. Many of the sealers will look worse after a couple of years than if you had left the wood alone.

Hey David, Doofus has the secret answer. Thompsons Water Seal at $20.00 a gallon or so is the right stuff. There are lots of sealers and binders and oil products out there. For the time and the money Thompsons is the best. I use it on my dock that's out in the weather year round. Wait one year before you apply anything to your deck so the CCA can weather. Otherwise the wood will not properly soak up the sealer and it'll be too slick to walk on. Reapply the stuff yearly. Have fun.

I use a material called Pennafin. It is a penetrating oil finish. Every year or 2 you reapply but you don't have to use the cleaners.

Armorall makes a sealer,Walmart sells it for about half the price of Thompson's. I used it on a trailer floor about a year ago & it is still shedding water well.

or Olympic- Home Depot- Lowes, etc. use the companion cleaner first. it is well worth the extra $ mudstuck

David, I would reccomend Thompson's deck sealer. You can buy it at any hardware or builders supply. goof

my wife is the dept manager for the paint dept,at Lowes and she said the best sealer is one made by vaspar called severe weather water sealer, it is a little cheaper than thompsons and works and last much longer if you cant find that one olympic water sealer also does well also I would also recommend using the companion cleaner
