I just bought a Jonsered 670 champ Chainsaw and got it to run, which it does very well by the way, but when I release the throttle from wide open position, it will only idle when its cold but after about 2 minutes of running, when I let go of the throttle trigger, it will not idle at all, it just hits 3000RPM and then stalls I have tried almost everything in my arsenal of ideas to resolve this problem but none have worked yet. I need some outside ideas to figure this one out, I have a Mcculloch PRO MAC 610 that I did the same things to and it runs fine no matter WHAT you do to it.

Two cycle engines have Two to Six pounds of crankcase pressure to operate. If a crankcase seal is leaking, this could be the problem. Usually the engine will not idle and will run somewhat lean at higher r.p.m. Look at the seals to determine if they are in question. Consider this after you are certain it has not got a carb problem or a vacuum leak.

Either the carb is clogged in the idle circuitor there is a little trash in the fuel tank/fuel filter.

Rob, the "low" needle valve (screw) is the adjustment for the low rpm's on your saw.. check setting by slowly closing keeping track of the turns, I'm not sure of your setting but i thinkk it's 1 turn out from close,,, between this setting & the idle screw adjment you should be able to keep the saw running without the chain going around the bar..ps make sure air filter is clean

Grab the crank on the clutch side and see if it moves up and down. Loose bearings were common on older Jonseys, that is what will take the seal out.
