Marseilles Hand crank Corn Shellers?

I have a Marseilles hand crank corn shell that belonged to my Grand Father that I am trying to find some information on. I brought it home today and I am going to restore it and would like to know all I could about it. It is a Marseilles Diamond Sheller. It was made in Marseilles, IL. It has a Patent date of 1873 on it. and says MARSEILLES MANUFG CO. DIAMOND on it. It is a wooden sheller that looks to have been originally Red. Any information on the sheller would be helpful. I have one of those shellers very simular to what yours is. I found it in a barn on the farm I bought in 1970. It was in the haymow and I just parked it over out of the way and forgot about it. Finally got it down last year and took it to the county fair. Mine is a very dull dusty red with black lettering that is varlly readable. Don't force the crank to get it to turn over if It is stuck. Mine was and I did and I broke a casting on the side of it.

You may want to dig in the John Deere archives informationfor more. Think they became part of John Deere's organization. Gene Davis
