Has the chain jumped the track. Nieghbor purchased new bar and chain just this week. Put it all together. Before first tank gas was used the chain jumped the track. Burred over half the links bottom sides. Brand new chain, useless. Might check for burred links.
Luck.

hold the chainsaw just in front of a white surface like a board, garage door, your wifes laundry, etc. & rev it up to the speed you cut at (full speed). If it throws black flecks on the surface, it is oiling enough. Sometimes the oil filter will block the flow or the plastic gears will melt down. If not oiling, pull filter off & try above test. If still not oiling, take clutch off & ck. plastic gears outside of the pump. If they're ok, then its in pump. Get new internal pump parts then, & replace.

Usually oil will almost be empty when you run out of gas.

Can you tell me where the adjustment is located? My saw is oiling enough for pine and aspen but not enough for pinion and Juniper.

If it is using a tank of oil to a tank of fuel, that is all there is. The pump is not adjustable on an 028, but I have seen the pin in the pump loosen up and decrease the amount of oil output. What makes you think there is not enough oil?

When cutting pinion, bar over heats after two 8"logs and i have to wait and run saw without cutting until the oil chatches up. I,m only using about 1/2 the oil per tank. the weather is cold mid 20's to low 30's. Maybe i need to thin the oil? I,m using husky oil

I have an 029 which does have the adjustable oiler on it and turned up all the way I only use half a tank of oil per tank of fuel. Both the 029's, the 028, and my dads 025 use this much oil per fuel so I assume thats how it is supposed to be. I would use Stihl oil, seems to work a lot better.

On my 029 farmboss I have also been getting 2 tanks of fuel to 1 of oil for about 10 years now. Never had a problem on either hardwood or soft. I have been cutting up some ash beams lately, nothing harder.

thats not cold enough to stop oil flow. I wouldn't thin oil. 2 guys came in one day, bar smoking like heck. They'd run out of bar oil & were using 10-W-40. NO NO! Is your bar pinched? look for a blue spot on it caused by overheating.

The 1/2 oil to 1 of fuel works OK on this size saw with a 16 or 18 inch bar. I know nobody wants to hear it, but it is time to take a serious look at the chain when a bar overheats. A sharp chain requires very little oil to lubricate it, in any wood.
