Any experience out there with a hydraulic bottle jack which uses air to pump the hydraulics up?

Northern has one (item 14432) which seem ok & is less expensive than Grainger's. As usual I wonder if they are any good????

Won't be used to lift anything that might crush someone.

Thanks - Bob

Thanks!

I have one, and they are great...

Especially if you are jacking some big heavy
things.

I have owned two air/hydraulic jacks and the combining crew I work with has one also. If you do a lot of jacking underneath of things, by all means buy one. It might save your life because you don't have to be laying underneath whatever you are jacking up to pump the jack. Laying underneath a loaded combine trailer while pumping a jack used to be a real tense job for me because if something slipped I could of had a 50000 pound trailer on top of me. My only advice for purchasing one is to not go cheap and buy one of those 50 dollar ones. It won't last. If you have a couple hundred dollars burning a hole in your pocket you can buy a good one.

Good thinking about not having to crawl under! I should have said I'll be using it to replace a el cheapo bottle jack on a 20-Ton shop press.

Thanks again!

Hi Bob,,
We have one of the air over hydraulic bottle jacks on a press and it works great.. We use it to bring the press shaft up against what we're pressing, then finish jacking with the jack handle, so you can feel how hard you're pressing. That is the beauty of the jack, you can use both the air or the jack handle. Would be nice to have a guage on the jack though. Dick

Friend of mine built a press using on of them. Works good. At crucial moments , switch to manual.Mguy.

Most any of them are good/bad they are ok if you want to get something up fast but if you just want enough to say remove a tire it canbe hard to stop them just where you want. I'd like to have a couple but there are other shop toys I want more so I'll just keep pumping the old way. My $0.02 worth
