Limited slip rear axle

I have a 1998 F-150 4x4 purchased new with limited slip rear axle. In turns on dry pavement at low speed, I do notice sometimes the limited slip action. This is the only 4x4 I have owned and so I have no comparison experience. While any vehicle can be stuck, this one has not had that problem. It pulls out of amazing places and with the 4wd engaged I know that at least three of the tires are pulling at any given time. In those cases, it barely spins at all, just pulls out. If you have experience with and without the limited slip, what was your experience?

I always order my 4WD vehicles with locking rear differentials. Otherwise you really only have 2WD.

I've driven several 2WD vehicles with locking differentials and traction control; they're not the same as 4WD, but not bad either.

Locking and limited slip differentials do tend to slide sideways worse than conventional diffs; that's the price you pay for have both wheels pulling.

I have had limited slip axles in 2WD drive vehicles over the years; They work well but they can get a little hairy when they "spin out" to the right on real slippery going. I bought my first 4WD drive vehicle ('94 Explorer) back in '96. it has a very good limited slip 8.8" rear axle with L/S. This is really my wife's vehicle, but I sure do love to take it 4 wheelin' 'cause with its set of Nokia "directional" snows on it, it is almost unstoppable. BTW, years ago, my wife's uncle had a '68 Bronco 6 cyl. with limited slip in both differentials. This was a rare option and the vehicle was already old when he bought it for a "woods" truck. He took me places in the steep woods here in upstate NY that completely amazed me.

I have a '73 Bronco with a 302 and a C4 tranny, it went just about anywhere, even with open diff's. I was never stuck, merely temporarily delayed, the bobtails were one of the best off roaders built.
It is now sitting in the yard awaiting a restoration.
The limited slip in my Superduty can be easily overpowered, they need something more stout to take the 500+ lbs of torque from the diesel.
