Hi T_Bone, I had a feeling you had an engineering degree. Reading your work history made me laugh somewhat. It's amazing how we have done so much of the same things in life. I completed two years of welding school while attending high school. Calif. is real big on trade schools, while taking required classes. Did not learn as much as I should have. Later I attended another year, took that year a lot more serious. Went through a 4-year Millwright apprenticeship. After graduation I moved to the North West, just in time for construction to fall flat on it's face. Went to work in an NRC approved fab shop that was under the Sheet Metal union's jurisdiction. Mostly built nuclear waste transportation tanks. Did not get to work on the high end stuff like you have, being the youngest pup in the shop I got all the heavy stuff. I was management's dream. You know the kind of guy who would run 60 pounds of 7/64-inch Dual Shield wire every day with very low reject % from the QC department. About the high end of my welding career was TIG welding 316L pipe 6-G open root with a purge. Got tired of the shop went back into construction. Rejoined the Carpenter's union but this time as a Pile Driver. Worked all up and down the west coast building aircraft carrier piers, large container shipping ports, bridges and so on. My company has the largest floating crane on the west coast, 1000-tons. Did my share of rigging too. Like you I had a career ending accident. The difference is I crushed the other end of my body. Got a helicopter ride to the local trauma center. Did not do a very good job of putting Humpty Dumpy back together again. Went into management, but just could not shake that accident, only lasted about 6-years. Now I'm 47-years old and setting on the sidelines like you. Pretty close huh. Carl
