I have a chance to purchase one of these welders,AC DC, high frequency. For stick or tig. Have any of you guys used one and how did you like it? Thanks ric

I have an econo tig by Miller. Tried the stick when I first bought it, no problem with the stick but I preferr to use a mig (MP250 Miller) over stick. The tig system on the econo tig works quite well for alluminume and stainless steel. My unit has the metal box foot control, told it is better than the newer plastic box foot control. Great unit with out a big foot print for space.

Hi Rick,

The Econo twin first came out in the early 70's maybe 71 or 72, and was a big hit with the rod burners as it had a very stable arc with a CU wound x-former.

Very easy machine to move around because of it's small size with a nice cylinder rack on the back of the machine.

Had a very good stable HF unit and was a great Tig machine for field work, it's intended design. Can't remember the duty cycle but it had to be 60% plus as I ran many 8hr days with it Tig welding SS.

I don't see why more contractors didn't use them as they were a great unit.

I have a chance to buy am Econo Twin HF for $450 or less. Not sure how old it is, but it has the hand crank amperage adjustment. The paint is not too good, so I guess its been around awile. It seemed to work ok and the HF feature came on. Is there anything I need to look out for? I don't mind it being old, but is there a risk of something going out on it? Thank You!
