We found out how to keep cats off hoods, now how do we stop dogs from messing up truck and car wheels? Thought about taking a oil burner transformer and using a piece of screen wire on the ground and connecting one wire to it and one wire to wheel. What are your ideals? Danny Hearl

Grandpa Joe Yount from Lockwood Mo. told me one time to gut shoot them with a 22 short. That way nobody misses them till they smell them under the house. Grandpa Joe is no longer with us, he always had an answer for what ever problem you had and nearly always a 22 short was part of the solution.

Your comments about dog pee remind me of something else. The Ford shop I worked in had a problem with a local kid, "Bernie". He'd swipe the empty pop bottles, then trade them in at the store next door! Then the pop guy would charge the shop for the missing bottles. We had one of those Champion spark plug testing machines on the steel bench, so we rigged it up with a long control wire, and attached a wire to the bench, and the other one to a steel plate on the floor. Well, along comes "Bernie". He leans over to reach way back on the bench, and somebody pushed the button! ZAPPPOHH!! Bernie ran screaming out the front door, and never came back! I thought it was rather cruel, but it solved the problem! RJ

If you can catch the dog hold him down and rub his butt with a corn cob and then pour tupentine on his butt and he will never come back. You can also load a water gun with viniger and spray him in the face with it. This is also very effective. That should keep the dog from coming back.

A buddy of mine shot his neighbors dog for chasing his chickens, Winchester rifle right in the head--BAM, dead. I think that everybody that owns a dog and lets it run loose takes the risk of it being killed. I dont agree with killing dogs though. Dog owners need to be more responsible. As far as the peeing on tires, put some of that spray stuff on your tires to keep animals off.

When I go to someonelses house I can't do anything about it,But when my pickup is at home and a stray dog comes by and pee's on one of my polished aluminum wheels and I see the dog,It's shot. I have probably killed 20 stray dogs in the last 10 years. I'd rather shoot it and be rid of it and that way it doesn't bother anyone and it does'nt starve to death. I have several old junk cars in the back field and I had a problem with goats getting on top of them, I ran a piece of electric fence wire over to them and connected it to the rest of the fence,as long as the car has either tires or is on a wooden block it'll bite ya if you touch it.

If the dogs didn't wash my wheels and mother nature didn't wash the rest my old J-10 Jeep would never get clean. Being a country boy myself I love the idea of the wheel covers painted with blocks for other country boys who find themselves stuck in the city for whatever reason. Hey if you can't mess with the stuck up, better than you neighbors with their new Lexus or Caddy, then where's the fun???

Would someone please explain what the big deal is about dogs doing what dogs do? As far as I know, the first dog to pee on a tire belonged to Henry Ford. He must have told all the other dogs and they have created their own means of communication... lol... seriously, you have all this talk of electrocuting dogs, sucking on valve stems, and painting wood to look like tires... WHY? If you live in the city, isnt there a leash law? If you live in the country who cares? If you are worried about changing a "dirty" tire, why don't you simply invest $2.00 in a pair of gloves?

Leash laws are a joke !! Around here if its a stray they won't come get it unless you catch it and tie it up for them from 9 to 5, 5 days a week Well if the dog was nice enough to come to you and was friendly I probabally would not have a problem with it. I have little kids and don't want a stray attacking them. Then there's the problem if your neighbor has a mean dog running around loose.Dog warden just gives them a warning telling them who complained so they can treat you and your kids like shit.Nothing ever gets settled untill hopefully the dog gets hit on the road, not fair to the dog or the driver, can't shoot them or you will get arrested for animal endangering or cruality.

cut plywood wheel protectors for each wheel. (look like an upside down U). when you park the truck, lead a cover against each wheel. you could paint the covers to match the truck paint job. numbering or labeling the covers such as left front, right rear, could be an option. if looks are a real concern, you could get a local artist to air brush a duplicate of your wheel and tire on each cover. sorry, just making fun of one of my neighbors.

Thats a different yet practical idea! You get two more benefits by using the "Wheel Protectors". One is you tires wont dry rot from the sun and two your neighbors will think you are really weird and stay away! You could paint them to look like concrete blocks and the dogs would think they where stolen and stay away, but the county might get you for an abandoned car! This could get fun!

I think you may have something there! the wheel protectors with the blocks painted on. just the thing for the country people that move to the city. would drive the city people crazy. oh thats right,,,,country people don't move to the city and city people are already..... never mind.

Bully for you, Bob. Obviously, y'all are city boys. Country folk would never be concerned about such a trivial matter. After driving in fields with manure, fertilizer, and whatever else, what the dogs do can't hurt a thing. I find it hard to believe that y'all would really put valve stems in your mouth anyway!!!! Seems like a lot of trouble for you to go to and a lot of pain for the dogs, just so that y'all can suck on a valve stem. Where I come from, we just wash our vehicles once in awhile. Every country kid knows you don't put those things in your mouth.

The electric fencer will stop the wheel peeing withno need to lay down a steel mesh and no danger of killing anyone or anything. One word of caution though,If your wife forgets and touches that machine, you may be eating cold beans for a long time:)

Reminds me of a story an old friend told me. He said he asked the helpfull gas station attendant who was checking his tire pressure, why he put the valve stem caps in his mouth ? The attendent said it was an easy was of keeping the caps out of the dirt. I was just wondering said the old guy,My dog pees on all 4 wheels every time I go home.Somthing to think about:)

Are you guys nuts or what? Have you never heard of the aspca? Perhaps you should not own a dog at all. Or does the dog help relieve the frustration you would otherwise vent on your spouse and children. Does kicking the dog make you feel like a man? Do you take the dishes out of the sink before you pee in it? Wake up, this is 2004 not 1804. I have two great danes, who I am happy to say relieve themselves on every vehicle that comes here. They stand beside me and grin at me to see if the visiors are welcome or not. If they are welcome, then the dogs go to work on the vehicle. They also sleep on my sofas and if no one likes the dog hair, they can sit on the floor.

No were not nuts (dueling banjos in the backgound). Everybody does not have the same values or thoughts about animals, no I dont kick my dog, but I do make him behave and part of that is not peeing on $300 polished wheels, neither mine or yours. My couch is clean enough to sit on and as a ex Air Force dorm rat, peeing in the sink is way over-rated and its just not very sanitary either. ASPCA? Must be a northern thing, they show up as strays in my pasture around my stock, they get shot. If I know who owns them they are called, once, second time they show up, shot, no second calls.

I've had big male dogs all my life, wouldn't even consider a female. Four years ago someone dumped a little female pup along side my drive. I took her in thinking I'd take to the pound later.

Still have her, weights 12 lbs, quiet as mouse, only yaps when someone pulls in the driveway, clean as a whistle, pees & craps in the grass only.

First female, first house dog, first dog under 50 lbs, first dog that didn't go into a barking fit when the neighbor 1/4 mile away opens his front door, first dog that didn't pee on everything that can't move out of the way, first dog that stays on the property period.

I wouldn't have another male dog.

Joe

I broke my dog from doing it by hooking my truck to my electric fence. The rubber tires keep the fence from grounding out. Boy you should have heard him howl he's never done it again.

I tried it too and it works great. Parked truck by the fence and used a piece of old copper house wire with a aligator clip on one end, hook it to a truck wheel and lay the other bent end over the fence wire. He dont do that anymore! Good boy!

My old dawg hasn't peed on my truck or tractor tires since he was a pup, but I'll be damned if I can get him to quit peeing on my Harley's front wheel. Every time he sees it, tsssss. If ya don't catch it and clean it off immediate-type-like it pits the chrome. (read....costs me $$$$$ to replace)
