HI! I HAVE BUILT MYSELF AN 8" GRINDER, MAINLY FOR ROUGH GRINDING. IT HAS A 1" SHAFT WITH BRONZE SLEEVE BEARINGS - AN ITEM I WAS GIVEN. A COMMON OIL LOCALLY IS CALLED " THREE IN ONE". ITS A GENERAL PURPOSE OIL. A SMALL CAN OF THIS COST ABOUT TWICE THE PRICE OF CAR OIL. MY QUESTION IS CAN I USE CAR OIL - 10W30? THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY ADVICE/SUGGESTIONS. AL.

I never touch 3 in 1 oil, it dries out and gums up especally on furnace motors. I used to use half 30 weight oil and the other half Reslon, never had a problem. I now use due to conveniance a product called ZOOM for bronz bearings as it comes with an extendable spout to get into tight spots. Also ZOOM is a parafine based lubricant.

That ought to work OK, 3in1 is a bit light for that purpose. I have drilled this type application and put in a couple grease zerks.
