Just bought a Lincoln welder and the guy was nice enough to include a Craftsman Torch and hoses. Just wondering from people who weld a lot, is it worth it to clean the tip, buy regulators and flash back arrestors or just buy a new set up.

I was planning to spend a bit less than 200 bucks to get a new Victor Torch Kit. Am I dollar foolish dealing with a 23 year old torch??? Guy claims torch still functions just needs to be cleaned.

Hi Richard,
Is that small Craftsman torch possibly a rebadged Harris? If so, they are good torches and parts are readily available at nearly any welding supply who sells Lincoln, since Lincoln owns Harris.

Flashback arrestors are a good investment for any torch that doesn`t have them.

I just ordered a #1 tip for my 1979.The one I have is very small and thats what I like about it;The tip is $17 plus another $7.50 to ship. You can get the victor but if its too big then get checkvalves for the sears and use it.ESAB sells a small torch.

I'd probably get a new one and keep yhe old one it may work with the other set up and if you have to buy reg. etc you would be better off with all in one set then to buy them piece by piece

Probably made by Harris most of the older Craftsman stuff was made by them, good stuff, probably ok to use but if you are looking to buy new I would consider Smith, Victor mixes gas in the handle as opposed to Smith in the tips. Plus Smith offers lifetime warranty on most of there commercial stuff. Just my 2 cented opinion!
