hydraulic reservoir cap

Can anybody help me locate an hydraulic filler cap(vented) for my 1-ton '86GMC dump truck bed? I haven't been able to identify the type of bed on the truck. Rustproofing underneath and previous owner no help. I've taken a 1" tapered black iron gas plug and modified it by drilling a 1/16" hole in the center and ground the top down so the collapsed bed wouldn't hit. I then threaded a piece of plastic string through the hole and attached a soft rubber cap to prevent dirt entry. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

ctryby; You mean that the original did not stick up higher than a square headed 1" pipe plug? Or less than that? That seems unreal. What did the old one look like, do you remember? Also I don't think a 1/16" hole sounds near big enough to me to keep from flexing the tank when the bed comes down fast. So don't blow the tank up unless you know for a fact its big enough. Might think about a air hose quick coupler and a 90 degree fitting on top of the tank, just uncouple air coupler that runs over to a remote mounted air filter which you can purchase at any place that does industral hydralic work, and then unscew the 90 degree fitting and what ever you have it tapped into to add oil to tank. Then screw that plug/90 degree fitting back into tank and hook air coupler back to it. If you can descibe old cap I might be able to tell you something that would fit.
