I am wanting to homebuild a welder and a log splitter . I am looking to build a welder because I plan to start building my own woodstoves out of 1/4" steel . A log splitter will come in handy for me because I burn my wood in the winter . I have a 300 6cyl out of a 81 ford pick up . Anyone have any good ideas as to what homemade project I could use this for ?? thanks for all the help and any good ideas . Sam , [email protected]

I have plans to build a 100amp welder out of an gm delco starter. Real simple to.

i built my splitter about 20 yrs ago i bought the pump and valve at quality farm & fleet i have had probably 1/2 dozen engines on it over the years. and believe it or not right now i have a 3 hp engine off a go cart my splitter is 12 ft long i can unbolt the wedge and split 8 ft locust fence post from logs.the power is all in the pump.

Hello Sam, For your information, my father in law build his own welder that used a tractors PTO to power the unit. He welded with it for years.
There are many good websites that might have information.
Try the following:

My neighbor made his own log splitter, real nice and is road towable. 5" bore cylinder and has a 11HP engine. Probalby the nicest log splitter I have ever seen.

Try Surplus Center for surplus generators that could be used for welder, i think they also have a governor that you will need to regulate the engine. northern tool usually have splitter plans in a book rack in the stores. look up lincoln welding for some great project books with alkinds of splitters and other stuff. the books are pretty cheap (i think they were $14.95). i've seen the books resold on ebay for over $50.00 each. sure would like to have that L6 engine for my 82 f250. like most projects it helps if you have a source for cheap "scrap" steel and parts.
