Plans for a shop

I am planing on building a shop at my new location. I came across www.behmdesign.com. Has anyone used their plans and are they worth the price. Any other good sources for plans. I built a pole barn years ago and got plans from some university but can't remeber where. Thanks

John is right, you may get alot of ideas out of a collection of several plans and incorporate several into your own, rather than go with one set of plans. Another idea might be to spend a little time and visit several shops around you if possible and see what they did.

Many universities - particularly the land-grant universities - have an agricultural engineering department. Pick an ag-oriented state (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, TX, Kansas, etc) & get in touch. That's as good a place as any to start. I got a book of plans several years ago from TX A&M that's served pretty well. I wonder, though, with all the stupid product liability laws we have, if universities are still publishing "do-it-yourself" info like that. The plans get pretty specific on timber sizes, nail/screw specs, etc. You can see it coming: some dummy takes shortcuts & doesn't follow directions, building collapses, and lawsuit(s) follow.

Guess I got off on a tangent. Sorry. HTH

I have some older literature like what you describe. It is published by the Midwest Plan Service-'an official activity of 13 Land Grant Colleges and Universities'. Book lists 12 midwestern schools and Alaska as members. Contact is Midwest Plan Service, Iowa State Univ at Ames, or your Extension Ag Engineer at your local member university.
