A local shop is selling a 1.5 hp twin-tank Emglo C200-4V compressor for $400 CAD. It's the original blue one. It is advertised as pumping at 3.6 cfm at 125 psi. I did some research on this compressor but wasn't able to find anything. Does anyone know anything about this compressor? Is this a good buy? Thanks!

Lawrence

That's what they are going for at House of Tools. Are you in Alberta?

It is an excellent compressor, but I doubt you will run any impacts or ratchets for long with small tanks like that. Another poster bought a DeWalt unit (Emglo) awhile back and is happy with it. House of Tools has one similar to it, labelled "Force", which is their in-house line of tools. It is going for about $250 CAN. I don't know where the savings are, but the motor is the first place I would suspect. If you could go to the $500-$550 range, there are some nice 20 gal, oil lubrictaed compressors to be had, which would probably run impacts a lot better. Princess Auto has a decent Coleman-Sanborn for just over $500, and Canadian Tire has some nice Campbell Hausfeld units for about the same price.

I am guessing you are in Alberta because your IP address looks a lot like the one I used to get from Shaw Cable when I lived in Edmonton.

$400 sounds pretty high for a 1.5hp, even if it is an emglo, $400 is probably what it was new. I bought a 5hp 30 gal. at costco about 2 years ago for $500, will run a 1/2" impact steady.

Just a rule of thumb, compressors are like lathes; a big one can always do the job of a small one, but the reverse isn't always true.
