Need buried phone line repair kit

Well, I did it. Putting in new water line from house to shop and cut my buried phone line. Since it is not a phone company line, I need to repair myself. It is regular phone co.-type service line, though.

Anyone know where to find those epoxy tube kits the phone company uses for these types of repairs? Don't want to bury a repair that goes bad in a couple months.

And do it quickly,or better yet,talk someone else into doing it.I spliced mine a few weeks ago,and just as I was twisting 'em together,someone called.I had NO IDEA a phone line could light you up that good. Dave

Splice it together cover with heat shrink, then get some Brush on electrical tape (available at most auto stores) and coat, let dry and recoat. Much better seal than just heatshrink and tape.

If it's in the driveway give it a little extra slack for setteling, maybe bed it in a little sand and try not to drive over it until it settles some. A vehicle driving over a tight wire could split it again by pushing it (and the stone) down.

If you can get a hold of more underground cable, you can splice in a piece of it. I am assuming you tore out a chunk of the cable. Try to get hold of some shrink sleeve that has the gel inside. Put that on your cable, splice in your piece using 3M Scotchlocks rated for burial, they have gel in them that is not water soluable. Then heat the shrink sleeve. You can buy all this stuff at Graybar or Granger but....if you know where the local phone guys drink coffee in your town, you could go ask them for help. Many of them would be glad to help even if it is your line. Maybe they could be talked into giving you some of these supplies for a cup of joe. Bottom line is, fix it right now, it will get wet later if you dont and will sound like someone is frying chicken in your ear. Good luck.

i CUT MINE AND PUT a splice and taped it real went 4 years and phone acted up and I dug it up not wanting to let phone co know I had cut it was still in good shape but menards have the kits and the next time I seen a friend who worked for phone co. he gave me a repair kit that they use expoxy and a tray to lay wires in after crimping together. now I don,t have to worry

I cut through one at a neighbors and I soldered it ,taped it ,slid a piece of 1/2" black plastic pipe over the repair then squirted it full of silicone caulking. That was 3 or 4 years ago,it;s still working.

I would look up someone like Granger Supply. They supply alot of stuff like that. And if nothing else get some srink tubing with the sealant inside. It's more like a hot glue than epxoy, but we use it on transmission cable all the time and it works great, last for years.

dig it up with room to work
slide about 6" of 1/2 pvc pipe over one end of the cable.
slide some heat shrink over each wire
clean the wires and make good soldered connections. cover the connections with heat shrink.. and well... shrink it

wrap a few turns of good tape over the connections...
slide the 1/2" pvc over the repaired area and fill completely with silicon caulking.

epoxy kits ?? we don't need no stinkin epoxy kits
