Think about it, it has TWO Detroit V-8s, its probably a huge airstrip crash truck that would not fit on a highway,

The Ford 1/4 ton jeeps the Army had back in the 1970's rolled over easy & were unsafe, & they only sold them surplus by cutting up.

Then theres the story of the guy who managed to get a T-38 trainer without too much mangling. They thought it was too far gone as engines and instrumentation were missing. It took him several years of government auctions and aircraft graveyards, but the only non government owned T-38 is flying!

Its because they must have gotten it free from the DRMS. One of the conditions for a government agency to get free equipment from another that has turned it in is to own it for seven years before they can disperse of it as a good piece of equipment. If its before seven years it goes back to the DRMS and is either reissued to another agency or sold at auction. Some items are sold as scrap and must be destoyed.

The vehicle is sold for parts and metal salvage only. The frame is destroyed to ensure that it can not be economically restored to roadworthiness.

This also done when ships are sold for scrape. The keel is cut to prevent the buyer from foreign flagging the vessel and continue to operate it.

Typical gov't waste. Probably a few volunteer fire dept's that could use it. Saw a nice city owned one go for $5000 at auction. Would cost $150,000 to replace.
