I have a Epson stylus color 740. Can someone tell me how to print in black and white only. I'm wasting color ink. When I click on the "properties" there is no box to choose either or, that's what the book shows. when I go through graphics etc at printing and choose black only, it doesn't apply. I know this isn't exactly the place for this but I'm just a grease monkey and not too good at this. thanks

I use to have an epson, try this. Completely remove the printer, first via the add/remove programs, and remove the printer software. Then go into printers, and delete the printer. Shutdown your computer, disconnect your printer, and reboot. Then shutdown again, connect your printer, and reboot. When the window comes up, found new hardware, click cancel. Once windows is up and running, put in the epson software disk. Post back good or bad.

This works sometimes because if you use the windows printer software, not all features that epson provides will be available. And I think that epson wants it installed via the disk, not the "found new hardware".

Have you tried going to the Epson website and downloading new, up-to-date drivers for your printer (if any are available)? Then delete you printer in contol panel, and install the new drivers.

I have no choice in properties for "grayscale". I do have spot in the color selection of properties for "print in black and white only" which I mark and click OK, but it still prints in color. Even my manual show that I should have the drop down box for grayscale choice but mine does have this for some reason. I even checked my printer install and managed to screw that all up and had to reinstall. Any one I know who is knowledgeable says the same thing you guys did but I am stumped. I sure could use some more help. I am sure its just something simple (which means I can't do it) :) thanks

I go to properties, advanced and use greyscale.

My Canon has a check box in the printer driver that says "grayscale". This turns colors to shades of gray. Be aware that color is "use it or lose it". If you leave it off for just a short period of time, it will dry out and not work when you need it again. HTH.
