Does anyone have Internet Satalite service? I have DishNetwork TV service now but they, as yet do not offer "Internet" dish service for south Louisiana. I have seen adds for DirectTV Internet service and they offer discounts if your a DirectTV customer but I like DishNetwork TV better.
If you have it, is it worth the extra money.
We only have access to the internet by Dialup which is OK because we live in the country, but I would go with an Internet Dish if the service is worth the money. Retired now and I would not move back to the city for any reason.

We have direcway and it is pretty fast, 11.0mbps. It's soooo much faster than dial up, I've never had cable so I cannot compare to that. Some other good things are you are connected all the time- it comes right up when you click the icon, no waiting for the dial up to get through, you don't tie up the extra phone line with the internet.I can't speak for anyone else but, I'm very happy with it.

The two main sat providers are DirecWay and Starband. I was almost ready to go with Starband, but cable Internet became available in my area.

You can check out the specs at www.starband.com or www.direcway.com, both services cost more than cable or DSL. I like the way the newer starband systems hook up to the computer and have seen a live demo of a starband system; it was a 700-800kps connection. The main disadvantage to both systems(other than cost) is a slow upload speed, if your trying so send large files out, the speed drops to 40-50kps.

Good luck,
Jeff

While I do not know the first thing about satellite internet because while I like to think we live in the country and would never move back to town for any reason; The town is moving to me and at a record pace so we have DSL now.
But anyway what I wanted to add is if you ever get a faster connection you will never go back to that Flintstone dialup.

I was in the same boat. Dial up with 26.4 kbps. Live too far from town for cable. DSL would come out but need min. four people to get it hooked up. Don't have four computer people in this valley. We have Dishnet TV. Found a Direcway sales men in a mall in town. Any way not I have Satalite Internet 11.0Mbps. Went wireless on the computers and we can internet anywhere on the place, up to four computers on the same hook up. Cost $60 per month. I get ride of my extra phone line, -$54 per month, get rid of my dial up -19.99 per month. Net savings $23.99 per month. Plus lots faster internet. I love it.
