I gotta paint the house exterior, Besides the PREPERATION,and more PREPERATION, what kind of paint do I need.

I understand that Walmart has 5 gallon 15 year for $37 and then

Home depot with paint to +$20 a gallon with a lifetime warranty.

And still others all between,

Do any particular brands stick out as good or bad

Have you ever seen paint last for your lifetime?

The last time, I used what was supposed to be "the good stuf" even after powerwashing and priming it still is falling off after 10 years or so in the California's Sacramento valley.

I was thinking this time I might have to follw the airless with a roller to try and sqeeze it in the cracks of the t-11 siding.

Gary, Like the comment about WalMart, how true. I have used Sherwin Williams paint in the past and it has held up great. As far as stain I use Olympic. I stained my house and it lasted for ten years. Did it again because the south side looked like it was failing and I was right, Only the south side needed to be recoated. The rest of the house you could not tell where the new and old stain met.

I'm up in Toronto. Cold winters- humid summers. Have been using waterbased acrylic house primers (Para 777), 2 coats, then top coat with good latex- 2 coats. The primer is the secret to long life. The waterbased primer actually gets sucked into the wood if it's damp, much like concrete parge work. Great for after a couple days of rain.

I didn't realize Walmart was importing paint from China. Stands to reason. If it's sold in Walmart it's got to be made somewhere other than the good old USA!!!

My experience is: first thing you do is get rid of the airless or any other spray for wood exterior. In fact on t-111 the job will go quicker with roller and brush. I always drawn to Benjamin Moore paints because others don't add up. If you have Benjamin Moore in your area ask for their super spec line of stains and paint-think you will like the price.

I had t-111 on a couple of my outbuildings, I went to sher. Williams and got some alkyd stain that was mixed to my color. I think the base mix is white. It soaked a lot of it up, but it sure gave good service, Lifetime paint? I dont think so. Off hand I dont remember what it was a gallon, but couldnt been anymore then 20 a gal. It rolled on nicely, but took more than one coat.
Stay away from latex, dont penetrate and dries to quick. This guy that sold me the paint sure knew his business.

A couple of days ago I went down to the library and copied their article. In the white color the SW was at the bottom of the pile. The only paint on their list I see as available locally is the Glidden at home depot and it was $17 a gal.

Dunno about that, but the alkyd "stain" I used held up for 10 years at the least. As I said i am sure the base tint color was white. They added coloring to make the legionair(Sandstone) color I needed.
