Makita drill batteries

I have a 12 volt Makita 3/8" drill with 2 battery packs, one battery pack has gone bad and will not take a charge, the other one is beginning to weaken. Can they be reconditioned? Where to purchase replacement one for less than a complete drill? Really like the power and portability of this drill motor. Gene

Yeah, you are really down in south Ga. I am 6 miles south of Tennille, Ga. Washington county,between the big cities of Wrightsville and Tennille.

My 3/8" Makita is about 12 years old. Is your old battery a 1210? That's what mine uses. It's the one with the double width for about half the length and fits completely in the handle.
They're kind of hard to find; most retailers carry the 9 volt size which I think may fit the 12v drill and charger also. I bought a new 12v battery a few months ago for $45 from a big western hardware chain.
Before the Makita dealer moved 25 miles away, I asked for a couple of dead batteries turned in by customers. I said they were for "experiments". One was modified to use off an auto battery and I used the other in the drill for a couple of years before it failed. Try any place that accepts old tool batteries for recycling. You might get lucky. If not, turn them in somewhere else.
Have you looked on the internet for new ones?

I cut the batterys out of the pack, tie wires to terminals, then hook two wires to a car battery. alvinnms
