I'm looking at a Hobart Beta Mig 200 welder and am wondering what your thoughts are on these welders. What model is this comparable to in their new Ironman series of welders? Would it weld nicely sheet metal and heavy iron? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

I was given a 200 beta mig by my sister's fiance. I've welded 1/16 to 3/8 metal with it successfully, never tried sheet metal. I have done a little aluminum with it though. I don't like the voltage control, it's not infinate like the wire speed, it has numbered notches that sometimes hamper fine tuning. I was told the welder is obsolete, the only parts availible for it are consumables (contact tips, nozzels, liners, etc,). Overall it's a good machine.

HI Bryan

I've purchased a new Hobart Beta Mig 200 in '83' & am still using it & couldn't begin to guess how many pallets of wire this machine has seen.
In '83' this welder would weld better at the top & bottom ends than the Miller 35. To compare to the Ironman 210 may not be fair [copper to aluminum windings].

The first two numbers of the serial # is the year manufactured.
