Propane Oven Question

The oven on my wifes kitchen stove every once in a while makes a loud noise like air is blowing thru the burner while it is lit. Sometime the noise goes away by itself, other times we shut off the oven and restart it a minute later and its fine. It is hard to see the flame but it could have more yellow in it when the condition exists. Also, there is a slight smell like exhaust when this occurs. The problem is hard to duplicate and does not happen all the time. The stove is a GE and is about 5 years old. Any ideas on what is causing this and how to fix it?

When the burner lights the flame is burning on the inside of the burner caused by too much air. Some burners have a air shutter that you can adjust the air with. Some burners have a screw in the throat of the burner that you turn in to adjust the air. Either way don,t close off the air too much or the burner, and oven will soot up. Sometimes a small spider web in the burner will cause the same thing. The flame should be blue and not lift off the burner. With some new pressed steel burners it is hard to get a perfect blue flame and you may have to settle for yellow tips. If you don,t feel good about adjusting the burner call a good gas serviceman.

DH,
I adjusted the flame so its blue and does not lift. I'll keep my eyes and ears open and if the sound ever does return, I will not hesitate to call a serviceman.

Sounds like the burner may be partly clogged.

It sounds like the flame is burning inside the tube (burner) when the noise occures. Defeneatly not a safe practice, have it checked out.
