Are Great neck tools worth a darn. I have a friend that deals in close outs and he got in a few crates of great neck tools and i was wondering where they were made and are they a fair tool to have? Its mostly ocket and wrench combinations.

Recently picked up a new set of Pittsburgh wrenches at Harbor Freight their house brand. Mixed in the new set was one Great Neck wrench. From that I would say they are probably made by the same place. The wrenches are a little crude, but do the job I need, and I dont mind loosing one or cutting it up for special job.

The few times I have used the wrenches, they were about as good as any of the cheaper sale tools that you buy. They either withstand the use or they break, bend, or etc. But I would suggest that you stay away from the hack saws. I have a finger that will never look or operate correctly again because of an accident while using a Great Neck brand Hack Saw.

I dont think they are made for any really heavy duty use. You could make a better choice for a little more $. AND get a warranty that could be recognized.

Sockets split open when any appreciable torque is applied and Torx drive sockets twist off.

I've had a few greatneck -- not pure junk, but close. For light work they may be worth what you pay for them, but they'll let you down when the going gets tuff.

I've got a set of their torx sockets that are like butter. I went to their web site to see about a replacement more than a year ago... no reply.

A few of their tools are made in the US, but I think most of their tools are made in Taiwan. The finish on their tools is pretty nice, but I have no idea what is underneath the shiny coating.

I have a pair of their tongue and groove pliers I bought years ago when I couldn't afford to pay much. They've held up ok, but I keep them in my desk at school so they only get used 5 or 6 times a month. James
