OK , Now I can use some help from you auto body experts. As I headed down the road to do estimates yesterday , I pushed the button on the truck door , for the window to go down. It went down half way , then come unhooked. Now it will not go up or down. I can hear the motor running inside the door. Just not hooked up. My question is: How do I get the door panel off , in order to re-attach what ever come un-attached? Anything else I should do while the door panel is off?

Once you get the door panel off completely, you will find the window is attached to the lift mechanism with two small bolts/ screws. The lift will have to be replaced, if you're hearing the motor run, the cables that push/pull the glass have slipped off their pulleys. Impossible to repair. Plan on spending $200. From GM only, auto parts places don't carry these, or maybe in a junk yard. When you remove the lift mechanism, be sure the arm doesn't windmill up, and trap a finger, the spring is strong enough to do damage. No reason a guy with a few handtools can't do it. John in Nebr.

I just removed the door panel on my 2000. There is a screw underneath the tray at the bottom of the door and also two screws behind the panel around the door handle. remove those and also the filler panel at the top front window post. The door panel will slide up out of the slots that will hold it in place.

On the newer trucks, most things just snap off. There may be a couple screws under a plastic tab inside the arm rest. If you gently pry on the panel at the lower left hand corner, you can probably see the little white attaching do-hickies. They just pop out of the metal panel. I have a tool for this, but a strong thin screwdriver will work. Stay close to the part that pops out. If one breaks, replacements are easy to get. After loosening the panel it should lift up and then off. The elec controls should come off before removing the panel. You may have a loose regulator, worse thing is gearhead on motor has stripped. Most of the hardware I think is riveted, sometime they just fail to install all the rivets. They can be replaced with a short 1/4 bolt and nut. GM will want about 350 to 400 if it is the motor and they replace it. You can get aftermarket motors for about 70 bucks. Hope this helps and this is from the old memory bank, sometimes it does fail me.

I had forgot to mention; The pick-up with the disconnected electric window is a 1999 chevy silverado.

Sounds like the cables on the accumalator have come off or jammed in the gear. Simular to the problem I had last summer with a 93 Crown Victoria. If you have a Hayne's Repair Manual it shouldn't be that hard to remove the door panel to repair/replace the accumalator. Be Advised, the one for the Crown Vic wasn't cheap. I imagine one for a Silverado won't be very cheap either.

Jim now in NM again.
