Being only a barnyard type of welder, I'm sure no expert and am always trying to get better at welds that are strong but "pretty". Seems like I end up using mostly 6013 & 7014. I really like the latter because, being a contact rod, it's easy & makes a pretty weld.

Today, a salesman at the welding supply house gave me a half lb or so of an "80T AC" rod. I'm not familiar with that designation but am guessing it's 80K tensile strength. It seems to weld pretty much like 6013/7014, though doesn't lay down as much slag as the 7014.

Anyone else know anything about 80T rods? Couldn't find anything in the archives so it's got me kinda curious. Maybe it's a new rod. Seems like the manufacturer was "Messer".
