Anybody ever used, or know anything about a program named "Spybot", a search and destroy program supposed to," remove spyware,(what is this?), and similar threats to the computer". Was told it would be a good idea to use this program about once per month. Any wise thoughts or maybe experienced computer people want to advise or comment on this program before I do anything I may regret later from using it? Thanks for your information on this subject. AdAware is easily defeated by most sites now -- it will show clean and not remove anything even when there's bad stuff there.

Spybot is very good, and free. We use it at work and at home.

I use it as well as ad adware 6.0 It basicly removes adware and spyware (annoyances simmiliar to viruses) from your pc. Get alot of popups? it gets rid of some of the programs that cause those, as well as getting rid of programs which track your net useage

How do you tell if the cookies are good or bad? It says some sites may not be able to be used if you remove their cookies. Gene

I have used Spybot and Adaware and both work. On the cookies, some sites not necessarilly with spyware need a cookie to identify you like your bank or a site that you are a member of. These are not bad cookies nor will the spyware program try to delete those cookies. Spyware may be on a site that you lets say looked at tools and they want to track you and see how often you look at tool sites. The porn sites do that so stay away from those. Also some free programs like some of the time programs and weather programs have spyware that have advertisements and tracking. They don't really know who you are unless you gave your email address to them when you loaded the program but they get a lot of marketing data from checking the sites you look at. Look at the link below for a simple explaination.
