Poulan 3400 carburator won't draw fuel

I recently got a used chainsaw. The fuel line was
all broken up so I replaced it. I cleaned the carburator out the best I could but it still will
not draw any fuel through it from the fuel line/tank.
It will start if I pour fuel in the carb directly but cuts out a few seconds after. I tried filling the fuel line and actully blow on the line while it was running but nothing no flow. It has a Walbro carburetor. Please help !

My 3400 was bought in 84 and had to replace the cylinder gasket once and now the fuel line in the tank is dried and cracked. Got a new line but my problem now is which hole does it go in on the tank? How does the tank vent hook up. Took it apart too long ago to remember lol.

Follow-up. I found a carb rebuild kit for it and
it fired right up after I put it back together.

Are you sure you pushed the fuel line into the tank far enough? When trying to start the saw, put your hand over the intake. Does it suck on your hand kind of hard or hardly at all? If you have a primer, is it cracked. Were any of the gaskets or diaghrams in the carburetor cracked? Any air leak will keep it from starting. If it isn't sucking hard in the intake, then their is either a crankcase leak or really bad compression. Hope this helps!!!!

Used to have this problem every fall when I worked for the snowmobile dealer. Stuck needle valve , he had a handheld pump w/gauge and a short piece of fuel line hooked it to the fuel inlet, pump to about seven pounds,needle
let go, pressure dropped to zero , Miracle, engine would start right up . Always run it out of gas at the end of the season, or use Paul Harvey's STABIL

I have Poulan that I bought new in 1972 that started doing the same thing on about it's 20th birthday, put in a new fuel line and a kit in carb and it's good for another 20 years!

jim, i think this saw has a reed box, you might have daybree holding the reed open or part. open...hold thumb over carb. & see if the piston has a sucking on the downstroke ,, also check the exhaust ports for carbon buildup..saw will pull air from exhaust if reed is not closing properly ie. not pull fuel into saw

Just repaired mine. The bottom reservoir and top plate of carb has a very fine mesh screen where fuel is drawn up via diaphragm. Both of mine were clogged. Clean out and now runs fine.

Try the fuel filter, then retrace the hose installation. Could be some of the hose got into the carb. If its a walbro, its easy to take apart, watch the wee little spring under the needle valve arm. Easy to lose. Think a kit is about 7 bucks. Check the mounting gasket also. Not really worth having repaired I dont think. If you have a hole in case or seal leaking, not worth spending anymore time on. Some of these saws, if you cant fix yourself, repairs will exceed the value.

Sounds like a plugged fuel filter or the diaphram in the carb is bad. Get a new fuel filter and a carb kit. If that doesn't work there may be a hole in the crankcase. If there is, junk it.

i have the same problem with my poulan 3400. i thought it may be the carb itself, but was unable to get any information on it. if you get it figuered out, please post it on here as i need to get my repaired also.
