Hey guys, I have a 16.8 volt Craftsman cordless drill that has a problem. It's in the Hi-Lo switch on the top of the unit. When I switch it to high speed, it makes a grinding noise and won't turn the chuck. When it's in Low range, it works fine. I guess it has a gear stripped or something like that. My question is: Can this be repaired, or would it cost so much that I should just buy another drill? I don't have any of the paper work for it, so I don't have a parts list or anything like that. Thanks in advance for your input. Good Luck and God Bless,
Tommy

ditto...i have 16.8, and it sometimes will make the grinding sound if the switch isn't fully engaged on the top...might be something internal you can fix?

I got a couple different parts list for craftsman drills. DIY repair has surely changed a lot. All they show on parts is Bat, charger and chuck. A problem anymore everything is throwaway it seems.Sounds a bit like my 19.2 Volt, got a slide hi-lo 2 Sp switch on top. It may not be engaging, just a speculation, Take it apart. Nothing ventured nothing gained. As far as cost, a while back I got a 19.2 drill, circular trim saw and flashlite for 125 dolla's. Thinks these are made by ryobi now. Good luck on the parts. If there is a model number on the drill, go here and type in the number for a parts list.

Theres only about a half dozen screws to take out to find out what's wrong...just watch out for the brushes...they are spring loaded. I feel ornery today...so "the devil hates a coward"! (smile) Fred OH
