I have a used Sears Craftsman Compressor with a 5HP electric motor that runs 220V. Anyone know of a Replacement 110V motor for this model? It is a pivot mount motor belt driving a large pulley. The tank is about 25 gallons i think.

Thanks

Kevin NJ

Additional Info:

There is a door to the connection points for the motor, but there is no wiring diagram. And there are no alternate locations for the terminals. I have done some wiring before.

it is listed on the motor as a 230RPM motor MOdel 3013, HP 3450. The pivot bracket is welded to the motor to adjust belt tension. It has a thermal overload protection button.

Dont you mean it is 3450 RPM instead of HP? Do you have a model number on the compressor? Seems some of those compressor motors were made for 220 or 110. Do it have 2 capacitors on top? But if there is no alternate connection terminals, probably 220.

Often the motors on these compressors are rated at exaggerated power output. What is the full-load amperage draw of your motor? Most likely, it is not more than 15 amperes, which would make it no more than a 3hp motor. Even at that power level, any motor of that power operating at 120 volts will draw more power than the ordinary circuit will provide. If belt driven, a 120 volt motor could be used with smaller motor pulley to drive the compressor slower- less power and less output. In any event, check the amperage draw of the new motor as soon as it is started after installation. Excessive continuous loads burns out motors quickly.
