If you are use to using 6011's, you likely will not like the 6013's....I have gone through boxes of 6011's while the 6013's went to waste....I do not like them!

The 6013 also doesn't deal with rusty metal as well as the 6011 does.

The lack of deep penetration compared to the 6011 makes it nicer for working with thinner metals. You're less likely to blow through.

The 6011 rods are a deep penetrating rod and excellent for tacking and they are fast freezing for vertical up and overhead welding applications. The 6013 are a cover rod and will give you a better finish look to your welds. They do not penetrate as deep.

I prefer E6013 over E6011 for new light metal fabrication. It burns real well with a DC welder in all positions.

I was also given a bunch of 6013. Will running it reverse on polarity make the penetration closer to that of 6010 or 6011?

It will make a little nicer looking weld, but will not penetrate quite as well. Not big difference, you will probably like it OK.
