Skil cordless batteries

I have a Skil 9.6 v Warrier 3/8" cordless drill that the battery has died in, have tried Skil with told the battery is no longer avaible, the numbers on the battery are Skil 92955 9.6 Volt Power Pack, anybody have an idea where I can get a battery?

They been advertising their new Skil 18 volt rechargable for like $39 at Southerlands, Circleville, Ohio (740-477-2244)...if thats any help. And maybe take an old 12 volt power supply and solder two leads where the original battery made contact in the drill handle to feed 12 volts to it...give it a little extra kick and use around the shop. I've changed one 9.6 to 12 (Milwaukee)and it handles it okay. Another way would be to go to the shack and get the required (tabbed) c cells and make your own battery pack to hitch onto your belt with about three feet of flexible leads going to the drill and use it that way. Saves throwing away an old friend. Looking in ham radio magazines will direct you to places like The Nicad Man that will probably rebuild packs or sell you the required new batteries. Just some suggestions of possibilities. Just don't try building something that is unsafe. Fred OH

I have found that a Batteries Plus store can rebuild them but if you would spend enough to buy 2 batteries you could buy a better new drill for the same money.

I do have anouther cordless drill of anouther make but all the others I have found are a bigger frame and will not work in as tight a place as this one will, Never heard of Batteries Plus, where are they?

The batteries plus I have been to is in Tampa, FL. Do a search on the web, they are a chain.
By obsoleting the batteries, the cordless manufacturers keep their sales of new units up. Been thru this a few times.

You can rebuild your pack using sub-C cell's from radio shack. Expensive @ $8.00 per 2 cell pack. I have rebuilt several pack's for an old Skil unit I had used for years simply because the thing was so compact and light weight. I finally found a Sears unit that was just as small(almost)and seemed to have more power.
I'm not a great fan of battery powered drill motors but need at least one in the work I do.
I think the secret to repairing battery packs is to use as big a wire as possible when replacing bad cell's. The new cell's will have solder lug's but you gotta attach them to the others. Best thing I've found to use for connecting is the copper braid called solder wick which is intended to wick up excess solder when doing board repair. It is compact and heavy enuff to handle the current without heating up and causing the solder joints from melting at the point of attachment to the cell.
Nicad and NMH batteries are a subject all their own and could take a lot of time and space to cover. Most user's don't understand the true nature of the little devil's. I've learned enuff to be able to finally get some long term use out of them. It all boils down to the care and feeding.

A real problem sometimes. Might dis assemble it and take one of the bats to radio shack, see if they have something, but then you would have to reconstruct the battery pack.I've run into that "Discontinued stuff" myself in the past.
