I know that mobile home tires are elegal. What if you put new 14.5" trailer tires that are not mobile home tires on the rims? I built my 18ft. trailer over 20 years ago and at that time MH tires where the norm around here(Alabama). The axles seem to be heavier than what I see on Mobile Homes now. I don't use my trailer alot and only short distances, and slow speeds. Thanks Rick

They are legal here, or at least everyone around uses them and has never been ticketed or had trouble with them,,I have had them on all my heavy trailers with no problems,,they are about 20 bucks including the rims at any mobile home dealer,,,Jim

Iv pulled many miles with MH tires. I buy them for 20 bucks each from the young kids that tend to the MH lots on weekends and that is on a rim. I loaned out the trailer once and it blew a tire with the guy. Poor guy spent 60 bucks on a new 14.5 that wasn't a MH tire. Anyway, I know they aren't supposed to be used but it depends on DOT in your state. In mine, a farm tag on a trailer is pretty much a liscense to do what you want as long as you are not obviously or blatantly doing something endangering others. Ive hauled 8 6x5 bales on my trailer (MH tires) many many times with no trouble.

I put good tires 14.5 on my 18ft. years ago still on it a couple of them have tubes now it has hauled many thousands of lbs of Fescue seed and round bales. I don't use it much now if I did they would need to be replaced.

I have seen 14.5" tires for sale at Fleet-Farm.I would not expect them to be branded the way original mobile home tires are. Ask your local DOT what is legal where you are. THEY are the ones that will give YOU trouble if I guess wrong!

Illegel? Hmmmm, I didn't know that. I had a car hauler for 10 years that had house trailer axles under it when I bought it. I bought like new mounted 10ply tires from a local house trailer dealership for $25 each when they had some. I sold the car hauler to a deputy sheriff last year along with 6 spare house trailer tires.

That is called the power of your government lobbyist.
See Mr. Congressman we only need to move our homes a few hundred miles then these tires will never be used again. We will not be hauling real heavy loads like those equipment haulers. Besides we can offer our customers a better price. By the way did I tell you we are making a large contribution to your campaign.

The axles and rims are legal as far as I know you just need to replace tires. Do not know what the axles are weight rated at though

They are single purpose tires, for mobil home transport only. They are built flimsy, & only last one trip. Why & how & who decided this was ok but that isn't - who knows?

But, it's stamped right on the rubber, and DOT _can_ fine you for any other use. In my state farm trailers are exempt from licence or much of anything if you are within 150 miles of home, so you see a lot of them around here.

But, DOT can be tough on you if they wish to.

Mobile home tire last longer if they have the recomended tire pressure of 90 psi. They can also be used for multiple trips, a neighbor of mine used to be a tire mounter for all the MH plants here. Some tires had several cross country trips on them. now MH sales take the axles with them when they leave they are reused till they die.
