I have an LP space heater that was bought at rural king and it heats up the shop fine but after it runs for awhile the fumes make your eyes burn and it gets hard to breath. My shop is about 14 ft X 30ft. What kinds do you guys use? Any ifo on which ones to stay away from? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

if you want to go ventless, you need a catalytic heater. i have the 3 burner unit from Mr. Heater. it is 42,000 BTUs. catalytic heaters have the most efficient combustion. their only byproduct is CO2. the do not make CO (carbon monoxide), so they are pretty safe to use in enclosed spaces. it does not give me headachs like other fuel powered heaters do.

hears a link that shows it

i got mine for $80 at fleet farm

While the upfront cost is a little more, a good direct vent unit heater is the best choice for a shop. Since it draws all its combustion air from outdoors, the hazzard from flammable vapors is greatly reduced. The fact that no indoor air is used also means that none of the air you just paid to heat has to be replaced. As always, save yourself some long run $ and a lot of headaches by having it installed by someone who knows what he's doing.

My 9000btu kerosene space heater causes headaches
after about an hour. The area is 300 sq' and has air leaks around the doors. Northern Hydraulics and others have heaters with oxygen depletion sensors which shut the heater off.

As with most all unvented heaters, you need ventilation of some kind. With the price of gas the way it is I put in an overhead elec with blower and thermostat. The overhead gas ones that vent outside and have a thermostat/blower are good also. Neither run constantly. But the initial investment is a little rugged.

Your problem isn't the heater its the fact that you don't have enough freash air comeing in. Its burning all your O2 and giveing off CO2 add a vent to your shop. or replace it with a vented heater. hope this helps
