HELP! Wire welder backlashed

Transported my 110v Hobart wire welder to the farm last weekend, and the darn thing stopped feeding wire. Being curious, I opened the side only to find my spool of wire backlashed like a cheap fishing real.

Have you ever re-wound a spool? I've got probably 15 or 20 wraps loose, and I really don't want to cut that much off, but I can't kink it at all. Any ideas would be helpfull.

Thanks

It sounds like the nut holding tension on the spool was not tight enough. Slide the spool off of its spindle and carefully unroll it untill all the loose wraps are off. Then carefully rewind it. If you run into any kinks cut the wire (and your losses) pull the bad section out, rethread and return to welding.
