I remember reading somewhere about real thick gear lube grade they use nowadays in some gear cases, does not leak out. Seemed it was 000 grade or something?

Any sources for this stuff, if I'm thinking of the right thing? Just can't remember the exact name of it.

Orrr...make your own by adding grease to the 90/140 wt till it stops leaking at the seals...just a cheaper thought. Works on rotary cutters that go to leaking in the middle of the mowing season when you don't have time to change them. HMMM! Fred OH

If you have a Amsoil dealer in your area you may want to look into this product.

John Deere sells a product called corn head grease. It's to pump like grease but turns to oil. I use it in steering gears. You might want to check it out ?

Someone here told me it was called bentonite grease,it is the stuff in riding lawnmower transmissions that don't have seals but have a semi liquid lubricant.

Mantis tiller worm drive gear lube is a lithium based NLGI #0 grease and works well in the 4-1/2 inch right angle gear boxes. It is about $5 a tube from Mantis.

The only grease I could find in auto supply stores was rated NLGI #2. It was very stiff or viscous and suitable only as a chassis or wheel bearing lube and not for gearboxes.

Paul head over to UFC, i got seals for a woods rotary chopper a while back and the parts man suggested for non winter use to go to that.

Since he brought it up, I assume they will carry it in stock.

I didn't get any as a belt got under the pulley and took the seal out completely and the shaft was vertical.

Double 00 grease I get it at an oil dist in Springfield, Mo. I haven't bought any for a couple of years , about $15 or $20 for five gal. bucket. It is the same thing used in Snapper yawn mower gear box if you buy it from auto parts in quart for Snapper higher than a tree. I use it in my gear boxes on my 15 ft Rino mower it will flow unlike gun grease. When I farmed I used in my rake boxes also.

What's the application? If it's for angle grinders and the like, I use Lubriplate #132. About $4.50/14 oz. can

It's "00" grease. about 3 bucks for 10oz. Probably any mower place will have it. Else they can order it and in qt sizes. Few places on the web you can order it, but you have the S&H chgs.
