I am putting a used fuel oil heater in my shop. How much higher should the tank outlet be compare to the heater? Someone told me that if I get it too high it will create too much pressure. This is an old Sears heater, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

Was cleaning our attic today, found a sleeve oil burner for cook stove .Have not worked on one of them in 30 years . they are going over to the HISTORICAL SOCIETY. At home we had an oil burner to heat hot water in celler with oil tank out doors 6Feet higher than burner the problem is with the constant level control ,it has only about 3/4inch adjustment on it. set too low no oil, too high oil on floor or flames too high.

The manual for both my old "Coleman" and my 60's "Sears - Kenmore" oil space heaters call for the tank outlet to be 1" higher for each 10' of line than the the TOP of the oil valve assembly. The "Coleman" limits the oil feed line to a max. of 50'.
I hope this helps you.

Well, some of them had a tank on the back of the stove which wasn't over a few inches above the carb inlet. You could start in that area. Fred OH

the bottom of the tank has to be higher than the heater carb/governor.. which has a float in it to regulate the oil flow.. most old oil tanks set w/24 inch legs which held them about 6 to 8 inches above the floor in the house, keep warm

no, but i think the heater oil came in two grades, one if your tank set outside in very cold conditions & another if the tank was in the basement at 55*.. desiel may have some additives that you might not want, but if stove is properly flued i think itwould not matter, check with your supplier or call the coop people..
