Bill what are you certified in? What is your opinion on the job out look in the fucher for data storage? How is the stress level and hours of work in this field is it just like networking?

Rod: I started in the army in 1975....then worked for IBM, NCR and several others. The company I work for now, and I don't want to call any names here in public forum, Is very fast paced and high stress. Very demanding but pays very well. I average 50 hours a week and am on call 24 X 7. The work goes in spurts, sometimes there isn't enough hours in the day, sometime I'm slow for a month or so. I'm a one man territory in a small to medium size city, so when it's slow I have a little time for myself. For the last 25 years, these companies have tried to figure out a way to get rid of CE's, but customers demand service and really don't want to take it on themselves. Besides, they have their job to do. I thought I'd get out of the business, and did for a couple of years. Worked in a sheet metal shop. I was miserable. There is a lot to be said about working in a controlled air conditioned environment.....It's really all I know how to do that pays fair money....but I have less and less time to do the things I enjoy. I feel the storage business will continue to grow and with new government regulations, especially after enron, the outlook is good.
