I am going to put doors on my pole barn. They will be 6 feet wide by 8 feet tall. There will be two per opening. I will be building the door out of 2x4's and T-111 siding to match the barn. I am looking for some good strap hinges to hang the doors with. Anyone got any ideas of where I should look and what size I should look at.

Thanks,
Bob

I use overhead barndoor track and trolleys on all my outbuildings. Depending on the trolley model they will hold 250# per set and up to ??? I like them because they don't sag or get loose and you can open them with your knee or an elbow against a cleat or batten if you've got your hands full; even in a full gale! The hardware is not cheap (about 80-100 bucks per door) but they are pretty bulletproof! :-)

Tie-rod ends make good rugged hinges. Just weld a piece of flatstock with some holes to each side. They are self-aligning and the older ones have grease fittings.

Why only 8 feet tall? That would not let my tractor in the barn.

The barn only allows me to put 8 foot doors in. I would have to redsign the front of the barn to make it higher. My M, the only tractor I have fits in through the door.

I would not rule out the use of gate hinges. The ones made for wooden gates that have a screw in or bolt in stud with strap with loop on the doors.

Thought about building your own? 3" strap metal; 3/4" cold-rolled rod; 3/4" black pipe; have built dozens (maybe hundreds) for corral gates.....

There you go.Was beginning to think that i may be the only on who did this kind of thing. Put them together out of scrap quicker than can run to town for a set. I also make a pretty handy sliding gate latch form 3/4 stock, pipe and a piece of angle iron--lag screw to wooden gate or hose clamp to metal.

No less than 3 hinges/dr.
Hinge pin-the biggest they have 3/4-1" with the flat being 6" or larger. Any farm store should have them maybe even Lowe's
