My old Hobart finally got tired...it's the one with the two cylinder Wisconsin engine with 12 volt electric start. I have the manual on the engine, but not the welding generator. I can't even find a serial number or model number on it...so, anyhow, it's probably a 200/225 amp outfit with the distributor that is built into the back of the 12 volt generator and the crankshaft (about 1 1/8") protruding out the front to hand crank it (read old)...if thats any help in identifying it. I polished the commutator, the brushes looked proper length...but no welder output. Anybody got any suggestions? This old welder has a duplex receptacle for DC output that runs auxillary lights or tools that only put out about 90 volts...thats about all the help I can be...anyone familiar with this old ex-good Hobart portable? Just quit as I was on a welding job...could hear the whine sound go out of the generator and no output after that. Thanks for your comments...Fred OH

Hi Fred,

About the only thing I can suggest is a good book on generators as they all work about the same or on the same principle.

This could be anything from a open winding to a bad voltage regulator to the windings having to much moister content.

Thanks T_Bone...Just thought maybe someone had one with the same problem and knew where to look first. I'll look around the Hobart Board or tear into it and start testing things. I do know where theres another just like it to compare things with. Fred OH
