I have been looking at hoists for a while now. Yesterday I picked up a 2-ton fold-able one. The store where I bought it did not have one set up to look at. When I opened it up at home I noticed that the front 2 wheels were not swivel casters like the rear 4. They are fixed. The question I have is before I assemble it is: Is it more convenient to have all casters or is it safer to have the front 2 wheels non swivel? This is my first hoist and hopefully the last for a while, so I would like to get others input. Thanks in advance for any comments.

Just turn the tube legs over and weld on another set of castors. Then with a half turn you can have it either way!!! Seems like I have a rig up on stands anyway to get under it so there is room for the unused castors to stick up. If you are not a weldor just use 5-16ths short bolts with the nut inside the tube. Lock nuts will keep them tight for an extra buck.

My advise: You better have good level concrete or flooring when you lift something with casters on all four...or it'll creep all over the place and won't hold still while you get that first bolt in...I find that it is not that inconvenient to have straight wheels on the front...they'll stay where you put them. Just one (older) person's opinion. Fred OH

I had the same problem. The straight wheels are APITA. I cut the old wheel mounts off and mounted swivel casters. I cut the square tube just behind the existing wheels. I attached the new casters to angle iron, probably 1/4" X 4" and then welded the angle iron to the square tube. Al

Mine has swivel casters on all wheels, and
it makes a big difference if you have two tons
of iron hanging off the end, trying to
position it...
