OT_Horse Forum?

Well I'm off to another new adventure, horses. I just returned from Elk hunting and was extremely disappointed with the "new generation" of hunters. Seams as tho everyone thinks the way to hunt is from sitting on a ATV and driving that ATV on the game trails, thru meadows, and tearing up the roads with spinning cookies, and don't even mention hunting by spot lite, shooting a cow elk for camp meat and let it hang in a empty camp between two camp sites and the best part, wraped the hind quarters in white plastic garbage bags hanging in the "sun", shooting 700yds accross a major NF roadway (good thing I seen the 3 cows (bull only area) and stopped), and a nice 3 point bull in a pick-up bed in a 4-point or better area. He didn't even cover the bull up with a tarp.

Ok off my soap box now!

Anyway since I can't walk very far, I decided to go with a horse and head deeper into the back country. I'm pretty green by now of not messing with horses since I was a kid, 420 moons ago to be exact, and need some sound advice so I'm looking for a horse forum much like this great website.

Suggestions?

Ya, like anything, a person needs to do there homework. I never bought a horse so lots to learn. I'm thinking of a colt and filley weaners for maybe a foal latter on.

I've trained a few bird dogs tho, how hard can it be...LMAO

I don't get rid of my pets and as long as a horse lives, starting with a 6mth old, we would grow older together and probably die together.

I thought about renting but since I'm crippled up, I can't walk in the woods no more, I really miss that, so a horse would solve that problem.

A horse will also force myself out of the house more often to care for it. Ya, they eat alot from what I remember my Dad saying, about 26lbs/day ?.

Funny I was really leaning towards buying a ATV until I went hunting. What a mistake that would have been.

what you stated is one reason why I quit years ago. It was another excuse by some to get away from the wife and get drunk.

I'm right out pauls backyard. Shotgun slugs only. When a bunch of who I thought were respectable people and several I considered friends showed my a fawn with a) a compound broken back leg, b) a slug hole by the tail c)another hole in the lower chest d) finally one behind the ear and they where bragging about the "harvest" they were getting and offering me a beer @ 9 in morning. I said I've had it.

I am actually believe it or not scared to go out the next 2 weekends. Way too much lead being sprayed around.

But to answer your question, the listed link will put you at a site that I frequent pretty often. Some kids, but some very knowledgable horse people that can answer just about any question and offer just about any kind of help you might need.
