Motion detector light shot?

I have a light that comes on now before it gets dark out.Noticed it a couple of weeks ago while mowing the lawn.It has a range setting but nothing else.Don't see any way to adjust for sensitivity.Maybe I should just go buy a better one?This one is 7 yrs. old,seems like it should have lasted longer than that.

Those lights are usually pretty cheap, and unfortunately the places they get mounted are usually not the best. Most every one I've ever seen is mounted out beyond the roof overhang so that water and snow and such piles up on it and kills 'em prematurely. 7 years seems good, I've seen lots only last like 2 years.

Like the other guys said, they do have a limited lifespan. When you consider the conditions they work in, it's probably pretty good - seven years. On early might indicate that the photo-cell isn't getting all the light it should. Can you check and see if there's dirt, insects, spider webs, etc. blocking the photo-cell - both outside, and inside the housing? I've noticed photo-cell operated things around here coming on early too. Depending on weather conditions, and the light in the sky it may be nothing to worry about. Watch them for a few days.

7 yrs is pretty good service. Like everything else electronic, it has a life span. Older ones you could turn some or had a shield that you could regulate incoming lite. I would just get another one.

Have a round photo-electric 'eye' that controls an outside light and it would continually cycle because it was picking up light (fixture mounted) from the fixture when it came on. Solution was to tape over half of the 'eye' to reduce the sensitivity. Perhaps you could tape over a section of yours to see how it reacts.

Guess I'll just get a new one.No it's not dirty,but yes it is pretty much out in the elements.Sounds like it lasted well considering.Think I will make some sort of hood to put above the new one.
