how many bags of portland does it take for a yard of concrete. need to only mix a yard but if use readymix they tack on trucking etc making it cost big bucks

You should be putting 560 pounds of cement per
yard for a good mix. Using 94lb. bags, that is
6 bags. I try for a 1:2:4 mix for cement, sand and coarse aggregate.

5 bag is a standard lean mix used for footers etc
6 bag is a richer mix, stronger, better able to stand weather, salt etc.
I always use 6 bag mix buying ready mix off of truck or mixing it by hand.
