Here's another blurb regarding the mightly chainsaw. I have a 5 yr old Mac 3516 (35cc, 16"). This saw runs almost perfect. I use it at least 3 times a week for landscaping and firewood. I do notice that it tends to bog down on larger logs (8"+). I keep the saw in clean/sharp running order. I re-read the manual and noticed a mention about adjusting the carb after a break-in period.
They don't give you a break-in period guideline, but I tried adjusting the hi-speed jet anyway. I gave it about a quarter turn cw and the saw runs much better. Does anyone have any thoughts on this saw (besides the obvious buy husky or stihl, I'm looking for a bigger saw, but for now this one must last). I've been looking for general tune-up guidelines on the net, but have'nt found anything yet.

THE SAW RUN'S ABOUT 1 HOUR,THEN CUTS OFF,AND WILLN'T STARTED BACK.YOU HAVE TO WAIT TELL IT'S COOL DOWN.THEN IT WILL START UP.is their adjustment on the carb.

I have the same saw, but the oil reservoir is broken. I need a new one... Do you know where I can het another one? Do you still have yours (maybe I can use it, or the part)?

Hi John,
I don't know where you got your saw. When I bought mine, the guy in the Farm and Home store shop said to bring it back after about three tanks of gas and he would "Turn up the RPM's and set the carb". They said the same thing in regard to my line trimmer. He had a little tach that worked from the vibration as he held it against my saw. If mine starts to bog down now, it is usually an indication of a dirty air filter.

It's best to adjust the carb on the slightly rich side; too lean and you can burn up the engine. Also, make certain your air cleaner is clean before you tinker with the mixture.

My experience is that if the saw is bogging down, I probably didn't sharpen the chain properly. You might try a new chain, or take yours to a professional. Your saw should be able to easily saw through an 8" log, even hardwood.

Open the high speed jet a little at a time until the saw starts to 'blubber' or sound 'raspy' (don't have better words to describe it) under load at full throttle... you will hear the difference in the exaust sound when you reach that point...

When you find that point turn the jet back in until you hear it run 'clean' This is your maximum power adjustment point for full rpm & load.

If the saw takes a few seconds to 'clean out and pull' when you go from idle to full throttle... turn the jet back in (little by little) until you're happy with the response... then leave it.

It helps your power a lot if you run a good synthetic oil... powerpunch or such.

its a two cycle; to tune it change the plug, yes keep the air filter clean, you have two jets to ajust on the carb one is high (speed) and the other idle turning them out counter clock wise gives more gas. ajust the high speed at high speed and idle at idle. you may have to do the twice to get it right. turn them in till it runs bad then out till it runs bad then go to the the half way point, on the idle jet you will want to give a 1/4 to a 1/2 more turn out. alway mix the gas the same and dont leave gas in the carb or tank to get old, thats a repair man dream. happy cuting

to give it more rpm you may be able to ajust the cable to the carb from the trigger, so it may open the butterfly
