I've got a 3 1/2 ton Craftsman floor jack that pumps up to point of contact with item being lifted, then it drops all the way back down. Jack has only been used a few times in the two years I've had it. Any ideas about failure causes or repairs? Thanks in advance Don Thompson

You may want to check the fluid level and try pumping it all the way up without any load a few times. Be safe by always using jack stands.

Good luck.

It probably has metal debris in a check valve or rust or a bad check valve seat in the hydraulic pump. Solution is to disassemble, clean thouroughly, inspect check valve seats, balls, springs and O-rings carefully and reassemble with clean all weather synthetic jack oil.
