Can someone help? I am in the market for a bench mounted electric chainsaw sharpner. Does anyone own one or have knowledge about? I have only seen
two brands -Oregon and import-any info would help.

Try www.commercialcutters.com . They have the Oregon model and one by Silver Streak that looks interesting. The Silver Streak lets you adjust the relationship between the grinding wheel and the chain holder to compensate for the short radius of the small wheel used on these cheaper grinders. Without this feature, You can "Grind in " some significant differences from one sides cutters to the other. Especially as your wheel gets smaller. Thats one reason why a large wheel grinder such as a Silvey is superior out of the box. Silveys are also reversible because you are supposed to grind from the inside out on both sides to do it right. This probably isn`t as important as equal tooth length and angles if you grind. Make sure you don`t burn the teeth, and check your rakers every few sharpenings. Keep the rakers at the factory spec for safety and performance. Sharp cutters do alot more for cutting speed than rakers ground too low. In fact, rakers ground too low can have the effect of slowing down chain speed, with the obvious result. Try Bailey`s if you want a Silvey.

Seems like every pro shop/sawmill/logger that I've seen uses the Oregon one...

Stihl sells one, which your dealer should be able to get.

I'm sure it's pricey, being Stihl.

If you're only interested in keeping your own saw sharp, get a file. Loggers carry a file with them in the woods and sharpen the chain right on the saw as needed, couple times a day if need be. It takes practice but the chain can last longer since it is kept sharper and you don't remove as much tooth by hand.
