MIller Dialarc welder question

I'm looking at a Miller Dialarc 250 AC/DC stick welder right now and the case is kind of beat up. I'm not really worried about that, but are these things pretty bullet proof as far as how long they will last considering it's use? Basically it looks rough, but it welds good yet. I know these are excellent welders, but does a typical small farm shop need one of this size? Is this thing going to run my electric bill through the roof when I use it? It sounds like it is a pretty good deal and it is fairly cheap so I am considering it heavily but need some reassurances. Thanks

I bought my DialArc 250 back in the 70s. Great machine, very dependable.

Bryan: Don't know much about the Dialarc specifically, but Miller in general makes and excellent welder. Provided the case isn't exposing (or crushing or shorting out) anything important, it shouldn't be a big deal. As far as electrical usage, if you're using lower amperage settings it shouldn't use any more juice than a smaller welder on the same setting.

I have not used the Miller, but I have a Lincoln Idealarc, which a comparable machine. I really like mine, got it for less than a new smaller machine that would not do the things it can do. Go to ebay and search Miller welder, you will find some Dialarcs for comparison to the one you are considering.
